This document was created by the Central Marketing Localization team (CML), it outlines best practices to guide the review of the Main Title translations within the MT Review sheet. Please also refer to the MT Style Guides when reviewing translations to ensure alignment with Amazon’s standards.
1. Prioritize Objective Feedback
Flag when:
- Meaning is incorrect or misleading
- Key names, IP, or terminology are mistranslated
- Grammar, spelling, or syntax errors are present
- Cultural references cause confusion or unintended meaning
- Misalignment with established franchise/IP
Avoid:
- Personal preference without rationale
- Changes that do not improve accuracy or clarity
Examples:
I would prefer "l'amico immaginario" (the imaginary friend) (missing rationale)
- Recommend this title translation as its easier to understand and reads easier.
2. Provide Clear Rationale
Provided input should answer: “Why is this incorrect or suboptimal?”
Strong feedback includes:
- Clear explanation (Linguistic or cultural reasoning)
- Reference to established precedent (existing titles, locally recognized translations based off IP)
Example:
- Keep to the ENG OV Main Title, considering no local dubbing and the word ties to the episode in the series. Moreover, it's common practice to use ENG title in MY
3. Validate Against Established IP/Names locally
Ensure consistency with how people, places, and IP are recognized locally.
- Validate established translations where they exist
- Research how the title/IP is marketed or known in your region
Examples:
- The book sells in French in Quebec under the name “Complicités” like in France.
- There is another movie with the same name (Imparable 2010) so we would like to tie the film with the book by Anthony Robles.
